One man making many headlines lately is Stephen Colbert. The host of Comedy Central’s ‘The Colbert Report’ was recently the target of the poorly informed and uptight #CancelColbert movement after one of his jokes was taken out of context thanks to an ill-conceived tweet. Then it was announced that he would be taking the place of the legendary David Letterman as the host of ‘The Late Show’ when the iconic late night personality retires next year. Now, it appears that Colbert might be on the wrong side of the war ignited in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the events of ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’.
In the opening of the comedian’s acclaimed show, he usually stands in a heroic pose amidst a number of patriotic phrases. However, a troubling phrase made it’s way onto the graphic on a recent episode of the show. Marvel.com shared this tweet from a Colbert fan:
Subliminal messaging, @StephenAtHome? Cap’s shield on your office wall is now REALLY disturbing! @marvel @AgentM pic.twitter.com/8JfBCPonWn

As we’ve seen in ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, you really can’t trust anyone anymore! Not even a beloved talk show host who once ran for president. Good thing he didn’t win the election because if he did, who knows how much worse the state of the Marvel Universe would be now?
Another troubling fact is that the shield of Captain America hangs on Colbert’s set ever since it was bequeathed to him after the death of Steve Rogers in 2007. Who knows what HYDRA could do with the signature weapon in their possession? Check out the video below to relive a happier time between Colbert and Marvel:
Do you think that Stephen Colbert is really an agent of HYDRA? Is it possible that a sleeper cell on his production team is looking to sully his reputation before he heads to CBS to take over for David Letterman? What’s your take on this developing situation? Let us know in the comment section.
