Maybe I’m getting old, but I think the ‘MTV Movie Awards’ is kind of a joke. It comes months after the end of “Awards Season” which caps with the Academy Awards each year, so they’re celebrating the movies of last year almost halfway through this year. And the awards are voted on by fans, so Josh Hutcherson can actually win “Best Actor” over Academy Award nominees Matthew McConaughey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Bradley Cooper and they have a category for “Best Shirtless Performance.” BUT, they are a huge event for the lucrative teen audience, the people with loads of free time, especially in the summer, and nearly all of their income is disposable. So Hollywood definitely makes it a point to court this audience either by unveiling world-premier clips on the show itself or by slipping in exciting new commercials during the breaks. Consider it a tween Super Bowl.
One of the movies studios are pushing to this youthful audience is August’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘, starring Megan Fox, Will Arnett, William Fitchner and the voices of Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub, who presumably narrates the newest TV ad, which doesn’t contain very much unseen footage, but among the new footage is a brief clip providing a glimpse of the CGI Splinter:
And he’s not alone! Although the still image is blurry, in the actual video you can make out his opponent a little better and it’s clearly none other than Shredder!
You can watch the video yourself below with a synopsis of the film following:
The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April O’Neil (Megan Fox) and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett) to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan. Based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Characters Created by PETER LAIRD and KEVIN EASTMAN with a Screenplay by JOSH APPELBAUM & ANDRÉ NEMEC and EVAN DAUGHERTY, Producer MICHAEL BAY (the blockbuster Transformers franchise) and director JONATHAN LIEBESMAN (Wrath of the Titans) bring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the popular franchise that has captivated audiences of all ages for decades, into the 21st century.
At the very least, this movie should deliver plenty of action! What do you think? Are you excited to see this revamp?
‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ will come out of its shell and into theaters on August 8th.
