On August 8th, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will return to the silver screen in live action for the first time in decades.  The Heroes In A Half Shell are already starring in a popular animated series on Nickelodeon and are featured as a popular action figure line.  But the new movie, produced by Michael Bay and directed by Jonathan Liebesman, is rumored to take a darker, more mature approach to the concept.  The first teaser trailer arrived a few weeks ago, but the movie is still reshooting and is in post-production, so there wasn’t a whole lot revealed.  And it was just announced that Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub have been cast as the voices of Leonardo and Splinter, so things appear to still be falling into place.  But as the movie approaches, expect a lot more to be unveiled in the next few months.

Just released are four character posters.  No, you can’t see the characters’ faces… not yet anyway.  Instead, taking this new dramatic tone the posters show the Turtle’s hands gripping their famous weapons of choice.  Also, their signature colors are on display.

First is Leonardo, in blue, gripping his trusty katana:

Next we have free-wheeling Michelangelo in orange, clutching a pair of nunchucks:

Then there’s Raphael in red with a sai:

And finally, we have techie Donatello in purple holding his bo staff:

What do you think?  Considering these are just teaser posters, I think they’re suitably dramatic, but also iconic.  If you grew up in the 80s and 90s, you immediately know what you’re looking at.  Does this make you excited for the upcoming movie?

Do you have a favorite?  Or do you want all four posters?
