It would appear that things aren’t that awesome in ‘Ghostbusters 3’ land at the moment as director of ‘The Lego Movie’ Phil Lord and Chris Miller have stepped out of the directing role. After Harold Ramis passed away we found out that ‘Ghostbusters 3’ was still set to move forward. After that, Ivan Reitman bowed out of the director role and the search was on for a new one. Last month it appeared the duo were offered the helmer’s chair.

Lord and Miller did meet with the producers and executives behind the project and while f initial talks did happen, the two ended up not committing as they wanted to keep their options open. While the studio apparently would like to still have them take over directing the film if they changed their minds, other options are now being looked into. With being turned down so soon into talks, though, I have a feeling the duo may have another movie in mind which we’ll see announced soon.

As the film is going to focus on a new set of Ghostbusters with only brief parts by Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, the studio is looking into their options as they want to start production some time in 2015 to hit the 2016 target release date. With that being the case, I’m sure we won’t have much longer until we hear about a director being picked. I just hope it is one that can pull something amazing off as I’d love to see the series continue on and not fall into reboot territory.

What do you think of Lord and Miller not opting to do the film? Who do you think would make a great director to bring this franchise back to life? Finally do you think they should go the darker tone of the original movie when continuing or try for more of a family friendly vibe? Share your thoughts below!
