Neil Gaiman’s return to the dream world of ‘Sandman’ his long-running, ground-breaking Vertigo series, the miniseries ‘Sandman Overture’ has already run into a few speed bumps.  The second issue was due in December, but only just arrived last week.  Now the April release date for issue #3 looks like a fantasy as well.

Gaiman spoke to CNN to promote the second issue and expressed that fans should get used to a longer than average wait in between installments.  “July will be issue 3,” the writer stated, “and then probably some more months; then issue 4, issue 5 and issue 6.”  Sigh… is it any wonder that more and more readers are switching to the “wait for the trade” method of comic reading?

At any rate, Gaiman described the upcoming issue #3 as “the nearest ‘Sandman’ has ever come to a spaghetti Western.  [It’s] not like anything I’ve ever done in any other way.”

Will this miniseries be the last readers see of Dream, Death and family?  Gaiman doesn’t think so.  “The characters are still in my head; they’re still there.  I really hope there’s more ‘Sandman’ in there. It would be sad if there wasn’t.”

‘Sandman Overture’ is being illustrated by J.H. Williams III.
