Back in 2012 when I first joined the staff here at ScienceFiction.com, one of the first stories that I wrote was about ‘Battle: Los Angeles’ and ‘Wrath of the Titans’ director Jonathan Liebeseman signing on to direct Michael Bay’s reboot of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’. Now, a little over two year later, we finally have our first official look at the film thanks to a brand new teaser trailer that hit the web this week.

Paramount Pictures recently released the first teaser for the upcoming film starring the heroes in a half-shell through the movie’s official YouTube channel. The minute and a half video features a voiceover of William Fichtner’s Shredder revealing the origin of our heroes to April O’Neil, who is played by Megan Fox, mixed with various action shots that offer our first actual look at the turtles played by Alan Ritchson, Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard, and Noel Fisher. You can check out the trailer below, followed by the official synopsis of the story:

The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan.

Some things went by pretty quickly in that video, so if you wanted to get a closer look at a few things like Shredder’s armor, a canister of ooze, or a couple turtles, check out the gallery of screen grabs from Collider below:

Currently, I’m feeling optimistically cautious about this film. I’m a little rubbed the wrong way that Shredder has been completely white-washed and the Turtles seem a little too bulky, but these things don’t necessarily mean that the film will be bad. I mean, the tiny bit of humor that snuck in there at the end was pretty good, so at least the movie could be entertaining. We’ll see what happens when more promotional material is released in anticipation for the film’s summer release. And at least they’re not aliens anymore, right?
