With the ‘Insidious’ franchise being a cash cow, it was only a matter of time before we heard more about the third installment that had already been greenlit with a 2015 release date. Past that we’ve had no details on where the plot might go or if James Wan (‘The Conjuring‘,’Saw’) would even be returning to the director’s chair. When the second film was done on a $5 million budget and made over $161 worldwide, there was no doubt we’d be getting a third one. Now, we’re getting some details on that third film!

Recently at SXSW the film’s writer, Leigh Whannell (‘Insidious’,’Dead Silence’), and ‘Insidious’ star, Angus Sampson (‘Where The Wild Things Are’,’Mad Max: Fury Road’), sat down to talk about what we’ll be seeing in the upcoming film. While the majority of their reason for being there was to talk about their upcoming drug-smuggling crime thriller ‘The Mule’, we thankfully received some details about ‘Insidious 3’.

There were 5 key points that were brought up for the film that should make fans happy! The first of which is the script isn’t just nearing completion it’s fully complete! While there will be some familiar faces returning, we will not be seeing Patrick Wilson (‘Hard Candy’,’Watchmen’) and Rose Byrne (‘X-Men: First Class’,’28 Weeks later’) back on screen. In fact, the focus of the third film will be on a completely new family and story! Of course, with how the second film ended that is kind of surprising but another fun fact is that it will not be at all connected to the last scene of ‘Insidious 2’. Finally, both Whannell and Sampson will be returning as the ghost hunters Specs and Tucker for the next film.

So, a new plot with a new family. Are you excited to see the ghost hunters return as the holdover cast members between the two franchises? Is that the right way to go? Share your thoughts below!
