When I assembled my list of most anticipated movies of 2014, one movie that narrowly missed the final count was ‘Transcendence’. Any film that has a cast including Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, and Cillian Murphy already has my attention, but add in the fact that this is the first film from Christopher Nolan’s cinematographer Wally Pfister, then that makes things a little more interesting. It’s rather impressive for someone to make their directorial debut with such big names, so naturally people are bound to take note of what you’re working on.

With that said, the promotion of ‘Transcendence’ has certainly picked up within the past few weeks. After stills and behind the scenes featurettes hit the web, two teaser trailers for the movie were released that contained voiceovers from Depp and Freeman. Then this week, a few more interesting bits of promotional material were released culminating in debut of the film’s newest trailer. First, a short Japanese trailer hit the web containing some new footage that we haven’t seen before. You can check that out below:

Then, a new poster dropped that basically showed an alternate angle of the creepy still of Depp that was released a while back with wires coming out of his head. That can be checked out below:

Finally, the brand new full-length trailer for the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s first helming gig. In the trailer below, we get our best look yet at what’s to come from the Black List sci-fi thriller written by Jack Paglen:

After seeing that trailer, I think Pfister decided to go big or go home for his first film as a director. What do you think about the first trailer for ‘Transcendence’? Are you excited to check it out once it hits theaters? Do you think that this feature will take the director out from under Christopher Nolan’s shadow? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

‘Transcendence’ starring Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, Cillian Murphy, Clifton Collins Jr., Kate Mara, and Paul Bettany will be released on April 17, 2014.
