It’s a pretty well known fact that all of Marvel Studios’ productions are connected in one unified cinematic universe. The first phase of films including ‘Iron Man’, ‘Thor’, and ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ all built up to ‘The Avengers’. Since then, we’ve seen how the events of that team up have affected the heroes in their own individual Phase Two films and in ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’. But now that Phase Two is about at its halfway point, where will the events from the next Marvel movie play out? The Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger spilled the beans.
Iger revealed that ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ will pave the way directly into ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’. Agent Coulson and his team over on ABC in ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ will also heavily feel the repercussions of the storyline in Cap’s next adventure. Of course, Iger didn’t reveal exactly how this sequel will affect the MCU, but he said that it will “set critical events in motion”.
For all we know, this could be something as small as a post-credit scene or it could be the movie as a whole. But either way, there’s a buffer between the Star-Spangled Avenger’s tale and the next team up of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ was placed in between the two films to expand on Thanos’ appearance at the very end of Joss Whedon’s 2012 blockbuster hit, so we’ll have to wait until next year for the payoff from ‘Winter Soldier’.
How do you think ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ will lead into ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’? What sort of fallout do you expect to see from Cap’s latest feature in ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’? Share your theories in the comments below.
‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ starring Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, and Emily VanCamp hits theaters on April 4, 2014.
