There are so many comic book based shows headed to TV, primetime is starting to look like your local multiplex.  With ‘Arrow‘ and ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ already catering to viewers and ‘Daredevil’, ‘Jessica Jones‘, ‘Luke Cage‘ and ‘Iron Fist’ headed to Netflix and pilots for ‘Gotham’, ‘The Flash‘ and ‘Constantine’ ordered by various networks.

While news about ‘Gotham‘ and ‘The Flash’ has been flowing steadily, presumably ‘Constantine‘ is a bit behind in its development.  It has been announced that the show is looking to cast four roles.

The first is obviously John Constantine himself.  In the comics, Constantine is a slick talking con man turned supernatural investigator who always looks out for his own best interest.  Keanu Reeves played a loose version of the character in the 2005 movie.

Second, the network is searching for someone to play Frank William “Chas” Chandler, Constantine’s cab driving buddy who often serves as the muscle to Constantine’s brains.

Two additional names were mentioned, Liv and Manny, but these appear to be new characters that didn’t originate in the comics.

David S. Goyer is co-writing the pilot’s script along with ‘The Mentalist’ creator Daniel Cerone.   John Constantine was created by Alan Moore, who, coincidently, is also having another one of his comics developed by Fox, ‘‘The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’.

What do you think?  Can TV fairly adapt the dark, violent and sexually explicit ‘Hellblazer’ series?   Any casting suggestions?  See mine here.
