Shortly after the first official photo from the production hit the web back in October, it was announced that Michael Arndt had been replaced by J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan as the writers of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’. Well, it appears that either they didn’t have much work to do script-wise or they tirelessly worked day and night because it was announced over the weekend that the script for the highly anticipated film has been completed.
Abrams announced the completion on Sunday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour while promoting his new NBC show ‘Believe’:
“We’re working really hard and we’ve got our script and we’re in deep prep. Full steam ahead, y’know.”
Not only did the director share the news about the script, but he also confirmed one of the many casting rumors connected to the first ‘Star Wars’ movie of the Disney era for the franchise. Earlier this month, talks of Jesse Plemons from ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Friday Night Lights’ joining the cast began to circulate and while they were on the subject of his most recent projects, he confirmed meeting with the young actor:
“He is one of the actors that we’ve talked to, yeah. But, you know. It’s not often that I read about actors that I’m going to be meeting … that I get to read articles about actors who are going to come in. And so I get to see someone and say, ‘Oh, I read that I’m going to see you.’ … It’s usually agents talking to people about what’s happening. It’s a lot of noise.”
Finally, Abrams addressed all the rumors in general and declared that he’s excited about all the talk surrounding the return to the galaxy far, far away despite how out there some of them are:
“There’ve been so many of them. It’s amazing to see how many there are. … But it’s sweet because it shows that there’s an interest in this movie that we all obviously know is there. But it is an incredible thing to see how many crazy things get thrown out that people often then write commentaries about. How happy they are, how disappointed they are about something that is completely false. It’s a lot of noise, frankly.”
Now that the script is completed, maybe now we’ll start to learn what other characters are actually involved besides R2-D2. But until then, are you excited to hear the news that Kasdan and Abrams have handed in their draft? And what do you think about Jesse Plemons potentially going from being associated with Walter White to Luke Skywalker? Let us know in the comments below.
