‘The Twilight Saga’ series, the books and movies, is hardly without its critics.  But at the same time, it has one of the largest and most loyal followings in all of fandom.  But apparently one group are such non-fans, they’re SUING!

Between the Lines Productions has filed a law suit accusing the movie of racism and perversion!  This is really happening!

At the center of the racism accusation is none other than Jacob Black, the Native American werewolf character that was portrayed by Taylor Lautner in the movies.  Between the Lines Productions alleges that the movies are rife with “one-dimensional stereotypes about Native Americans and indigenous culture through the depiction of the character Jacob Black as a ‘noble savage,’ ‘bloodthirsty warrior’ and ‘sexual predator.’”  (That last one, I agree with!  More on that in a bit.)  The suit also accuses the films with placing a “heavy emphasis” on “socio-political hierarchy and economic power based on the color of skin rather than the contents of his or her character or accomplishments.”

Jacob isn’t the only “sexual predator” either.  The movies center “around the lustful and eventual sexual relationship between a 17-year-old girl, Bella Swan, and a male character, Edward Cullen, who is nearly 100 years her senior.”

Let’s not forget that Jacob ends up falling in love with and marrying Bella and Edward’s BABY!

Why would a production company file such a strange law suit?  Well, it turns out Between the Lines is producing a ‘Twilight’ parody ‘TwiHarder’ which Summit and Lionsgate are trying to shut down.  A cease and desist was issued, resulting in Between the Lines filing a suit for $500 million!  The first lawsuit, however was dropped when this new suit was filed.

Technically, making a parody is completely legal, so I don’t see where Lionsgate and Summit’s cease and desist is even valid.  But on the other hand, these accusations on Behind the Lines’ part seem a bit farfetched and like a bit of a stretch.

Well, nothing involving ‘Twilight’ is ever really that simple.  Whose side are you on?  And I don’t mean Team Edward or Team Jacob!
