With Marvel’s Phase 2 taking on a cosmic aspect we’re of course getting some alien creatures. One of the ones from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ that will most stick out though will be Bradley Cooper (‘Limitless‘) voicing Rocket Raccoon and his slew of annoying catch phrases. Recently he sad down for the press about his latest film ‘American Hustle’ and shared a few tidbits about his work on Marvel’s big cosmic gamble.
Since his voice will be the only part of Cooper that will be in the film, how he sounds is, of course, important. Interestingly enough it looks like he was on the fence about the film until James Gunn (‘Dawn of the Dead’) started talking to him.
“Well, I like James a lot and it really was about him and then talking to him about the guy. I wasn’t familiar with the comic at all and then I really loved it, and I love that character. He’s incredible that character. You know, one thing we debated was he’s seen as a cockney accent sometimes. So we talked about whether we’d do that or do this sort of other guy from the city a little bit.”
Rocket Raccoon with a cockney accent? Oh, how I hope that’s the route they go! That’d be perfectly fitting for the Raccoon and hearing him say “bang!” every time he pulls the trigger will be so much better with an accent.
While the film was in production, the cast had a chance to see some of the footage and while Cooper didn’t give any spoilers away, he did say that “Chris Pratt is unbelievable and Zoe is great, she’s always great. Chris Pratt just blew me away. I thought he’s just like the perfect guy.” There’s some Chris Pratt (‘Her‘) bro-love right there! Either he and Chris are hanging out all the time or he is truly pulling off an amazing performance. With Zoe Saldana (‘Star Trek Into Darkness’) saying that the film’s characters are “absolutely amazing and they have a full blown redemption” it’s promising a lot. Of course the fact that James Gunn has mentioned Thanos will be more than just a side smile will help bring at least a few skeptical people in.
