It was just a few days ago that we found out that ‘The Strain’ was picked up for a thirteen episode first season and now we’re already finding out about a major casting change! One of the actors I was most looking forward to seeing in the series, John Hurt (‘Doctor Who‘) has been replaced by David Bradley (‘Game of Thrones’, ‘An Adventure in Space and Time’).

While I’m sure this news won’t really take away from Guillermo del Toro’s (‘Pacific Rim‘) upcoming masterpiece, it really is a shame as I’m a huge fan of Hurt and was looking forward to this. That being said, David Bradley has shown off some amazing acting chops over the years and specifically so as the quite evil Walder Frey in ‘Game of Thrones’.

Bradley is taking over the role as Professor Setrakian and is the perfect age. The Professor is a holocaust survivor who moved to the United States after surviving World War II and now runs a pawn shop in Spanish Harlem. As much as I love Hurt, I can see Bradley as having more of the proper look for the role.

In the novel series, when the outbreak occurs, one of the main focuses of the show will be dealing with vampirism and Bradley’s character may just be the only one who knows what exactly is happening and possibly how to stop it. The problem? No one is listening.

What do you think of the casting change?
