There’s been a lot of speculation regarding Edgar Wright’s ‘Ant-Man’ movie, one of the more clandestine Marvel productions.  Wright’s comedic background has many wondering if this will be the first straight-out comedy from the studio.  Oh sure, nearly every Marvel movie has some humorous elements, but will this one be even more overt?

Well, if the latest rumors are true, it certainly looks that way.  Schmoesknow.com is reporting that according to a “very reliable source”, Paul Rudd and Rashida Jones are very close to signing on to play Hank Pym/Ant-Man and Janet Van Dyne.  The two previously starred together in ‘I Love You Man’ and ‘Our Idiot Brother’.

The SchmoesKnow site references another report from Superhero Movie News that also supported the possibility of Jones as Van Dyne:

The new rumor that is going around says, that The Wasp WON’T feature in Ant-Man, but Janet Van Dyne WILL. The source says, “Janet will be a love interest and a major supporting character, we would see multiple references to her future as The Wasp throughout the film.” [EDIT] Rashida Jones is said to be Marvel’s top pick for her “chemistry with the other actors.” The source highlighted Paul Rudd and Parks & Recreation co-star, Chris Pratt.

Jones announced earlier this year, that she will be exiting her long-running role as Ann Perkins on ‘Parks and Recreation’, midway through this season, so that frees her up.  Some may wonder about her ethnicity, but I can certainly look beyond that, since there have been two takes on the character in the comics.  The 616 version is… well, WASPy, but the Ultimate version was Asian-American.  Jones’ acting chops are really what’s important, and in that department, I am already a fan.  (She is the daughter of music producer Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton, most famous as the blonde bombshell in the original ‘Mod Squad’.)  And it sounds like eventually, she could gain the powers of The Wasp and charge into battle with The Avengers.  (The mention of her chemistry with Chris Pratt makes me think at some point ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ will in fact, collide with ‘The Avengers’.)

So what do you think?  Are these two perfect for the roles of Ant-Man and Janet Van Dyne?
