Last July, ‘Chronicle’ director Josh Trank was officially tasked with rebooting ‘Fantastic Four’ for Fox. Since then, a number of writers such as Jeremy Slater, Michael Green, Seth Grahame-Smith, and T.S. Nowlin have all gotten their hands on the story before Simon Kinberg was brought in last week to polish things up. Now, while a final version of the script is coming together, it looks like the production is ready to start testing actors and actresses for the lead roles.

Previously, Michael B. Jordan was rumored to take up the mantle of the Human Torch and ‘Girls’ star Allison Williams would be stepping into the invisible shoes of the Invisible Woman. However, according to the latest reports from Variety, she’s not mentioned at all  except regarding playing a possible Sue Storms. Instead, Saoirse Ronan and Kate Mara are the young actresses being looked at for the role. Additionally, the film is looking to test out ‘Game of Thrones’ fan favorite Kit Harington, ‘Skins’ alum Jack O’Connell, and Miles Teller of ‘The Spectacular Now’ and the ‘Footloose’ remake for the part of Sue’s beau and team leader Mr. Fantastic.

Just like ‘X-Men: First Class’ did for the X-Men, this new reboot is looking to invigorate the franchise with young stars to build around, but this list is quite an interesting one to say the least. While Harington and O’Connell both have some fans out there in the world, I just don’t see them becoming the next Reed Richards. Of the three, Teller might have a good go at the character, but I’d see him being more of a Johnny Storm based on his previous performances. As for the ladies, it’s a toss up, but Ronan has been gaining some buzz lately thanks to her potential involvement in ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’, so she must have some heroic characteristics about her that I just haven’t seen yet.

After seeing who Trank is initially interested in for the film, I’m quite intrigued to see who else could be in the running to portray the latest versions of Marvel’s First Family. After all, we don’t even know who might possibly be in line for the lovable, blue-eyed Thing, Ben Grimm. If these choices are any indication, we’re likely to be surprised when that list is announced.

What do you think about the list of actors and actresses anticipated to test for the roles of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman in the upcoming ‘Fantastic Four’ from Josh Trank? Are there any that stand out as clear choices so far? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments below.

‘Fantastic Four’ will open in theaters on March 6, 2015.
