With ‘Twilight’ finished and ‘True Blood’ heading into its last season, it looks like the world is going to be a few sexy vampires poorer.  How better to fill the void than by bringing back the original sexy vampire, the aristocratic and irresistibly charismatic ‘Dracula’?

The aristocratic and irresistibly charismatic Jonathan Rhys Meyers (most famous for ‘The Tudors’ another racy delight) fittingly takes on the role of the famous Count, opposite Jessica De Gouw as his forbidden object of affection, Mina Murray.

In the US, the new series will air on NBC beginning on October 25th, but in the UK, it will air on Sky Living, who have unleashed this sleek and stylish new promo video.  In it we see The Count slowly prowling the gloomy yet crowded streets of London, his red eyes popping out against all the dark and gray around him.  Then he spies her, Mina practically glowing in a vibrant blue dress.  He is completely and absolutely drawn to her.  But then she is whisked away.

Here is the official plot synopsis:

”Dracula (Meyers) arrives in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who maintains that he wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. In reality, he hopes to wreak revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier but falls hopelessly in love with a woman who seems to be a reincarnation of his dead wife.”

Rhys Meyers seems flawlessly cast in this role and his experience on ‘The Tudors’ as King Henry VIII hints at great things for ‘Dracula’.  He’s even had some recent vampire experience, appearing in ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’.

The show has yet to debut, but I think Eric and Bill and Edward and Stefan and Damon may need to watch out.  The original is back!

What do you think?

The 10-part series kicks off October 25th on NBC in the US and Sky Living in the UK.
