Just kidding!  But the popular singer/song writer has been cast in an undisclosed role in the adaptation of ‘The Giver’, a Newberry Award winning YA novel written by Lois Lowry that is being produced by The Weinstein Company.  What has been disclosed is that Tom Cruise’s ex, Katie Holmes, will portray the mother of the main character, Jonas, portrayed by Brendon Thwaites.  The novel follows Jonas as he is trained to use his sensory abilities to become the “Receiver of Memories” by Jeff Bridges’ elder character, ‘The Giver’.  Multiple Academy Award winning actress Meryl Streep will portray the Chief Elder who dictates the young character’s role in their society.

Also featured in the movie are Alexander Skarsgard, Odeya Rush and Cameron Monaghan.

The adaptation is set to start filming October 7th in Cape Town, South Africa, and will be directed by Phillip Noyce who previously helmed Angelina Jolie’s action film ‘Salt.’  The screenplay was adapted by Michael Mitnick. Walden Media is co-financing and co-producing the film with TWC.

Bridges is producing the film along with Nikki Silver and Neil Konigsberg, while Ralph Winter, Scooter Braun and Alison Owen executive producing.  (Yeah, Scooter Braun, the mastermind behind Justin Bieber!)

Here is the official film synopsis:

Jonas’s world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear of pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community. When Jonas turns 12 he is singled out to receive special training from The Giver.

The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.

But the real question is, will Swift write a tell-all song about making the movie?  Is she “never, ever, ever getting back together” with Streep, Bridges and company?  Guess we’ll have to wait and see!

The film is scheduled to hit theaters on Aug. 15, 2014.
