With all indications pointing toward a gathering of the Sinister Six in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’, it certainly wouldn’t be a party without the Green Goblin!  Chris Cooper has already been announced to be playing the super baddie’s alter ego, Norman Osborn in ‘Spider-Man 2’, so is a transformation on its way?

And while typically, super hero movies (and other big budget blockbusters) are kept strictly under wraps, the actor may have let a few details slip.  Cooper, while attending the Toronto Film Festival, stated that ASM 2 was “an introduction to Norman Osborn” that “apparently leads to better things in [The Amazing] Spider-Man 3.”

He went on to discuss his role as “I think it’s fair to say he’s on his last legs. And I don’t know if I can say anything more.”  It sounds like Osborn may be dying which could lead to some sort of genetic manipulation which could in turn lead to him morphing into the Green Goblin.  In the original (616) comics, Osborn is just a guy in a costume, but on the 80s ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends’ cartoons, he actually physically transformed (a la The Hulk) into the maniacal villain.  And in the Ultimate comics, he also physically transformed, in this case into a giant behemoth, but that sounds too much like The Lizard, the antagonist from the first ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ movie, so presumably, they’ll stay away from that approach.

Even so, anything would be a step up from the oddly armored Green Goblin from the first ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy, embodied by Willam Defoe.  (Not to mention the nondescript “Hobgoblin” played by James Franco in the third movie.)

So what would you think about a Norman Osborn that actually transformed into a demonic Goblin?  Are you looking forward to the Sinister Six amassing against ol’ Web-Head?  Leave a comment below!
