Vin Diesel is busy promoting ‘Riddick’ his ‘Pitch Black’ follow up, but rumors continue to hound the leading man regarding his involvement with Marvel Entertainment.  Is he voicing tree-creature Groot or not?  He’s still remaining (charmingly) coy about it, but if you watch the video above, he doesn’t deny that he’s voicing the “plant creature.”

“What can I say about Groot? I can say something about Marvel.  I take my hat off to them for being so creative and thinking outside of the box.”

Diesel actually let spill that he’d originally been in discussion with Marvel to create a new property.  “It would come out in 2016 or 2017 and potentially launch the third phase.”  But the actor is busy with other projects, so providing just the voice to a CGI character could work perfectly.  “With my schedule, it was almost impossible to imagine I could do anything immediate,” the actor who is working on a seventh ‘Fast and Furious’ movie stated, adding “I guess after they watched ‘Iron Giant’, or whatever, they came up with this idea of taking the strangest Marvel character — or the strangest Marvel character that’s ever hit film — and thought what I could do with that with motion capture and with my voice.”

“The Iron Giant” is one of my favorite movies of all time.  It’s… just wonderful.  Sad, yes, but wonderful.  Do I think ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ will be as good?  Hell no.  Nope.  Not even remotely.  But, Diesel delivered some of my favorite lines in movies ever.  “You stay.  I go.  No Following.”  (I’m crying as I type this!)

I’d love to see Diesel as a Marvel leading man, but finding a role for him might be awkward.  He’s not black enough to be Black Panther.  He’s kind of that future person that in twenty years, everyone will be.  But he’s charismatic as all get out and certainly has that leading man charm.

Is he right for giant talking tree Groot?  Would you like to see him in a more visible role?  Leave a comment below!
