Long gone are the days we thought of Daniel Radcliffe as an innocent Harry Potter as he’s now grown into quite the horror star. First he starred in ‘The Woman in Black‘, after which he was cast to wear Horns and most recently he’s been tapped to play Igor in the Fox studio big screen adaptation of Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’.

If Radcliff is playing Igor, the question is who will he co-star alongside of him in the role of Victor Von Frankenstein? Well that part has finally been cast and will be portrayed by James McAvoy (‘X-Men: Days of Future Past‘, ‘X-Men: First Class‘). While McAvoy wouldn’t be the first person I would picture to play the elusive Doctor Frankenstein, I could see him pulling off this serious part. Previous reports had this role going to either Jack Huston (‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipe’, ‘Outlander’) or Toby Kebbell (‘Wrath of the Titans’ , ‘Prince of Persia: Sands of Time’) though apparently McAvoy grabbed the role from both of them. Maybe using some mind tricks he picked up while playing the part of Professor X?

Now my question is are we going to see the creation of his monster in this film or will this just be about the mad scientist and his assistant? According to reports, this rendition of the classic tale will be told from the point of view of Igor, so it will be interesting to see how it all comes together.

Random thoughts aside there is no actual information on the film (not even an official title!) but we do know that Paul McGuigan (‘Sherlock’, ‘Push’) will be directing from a script written by Max Landis (‘Chronicle‘).

It’s a good thing casting is done as the initial targeted release date appears to be October 17, 2014. If they want to hold true to that date, production needs to get under way soon! We’ll keep you updated with the latest news on this project once it’s available.

Are you looking for a new take on ‘Frankenstein’? Also do you want the focus to be on the Doctor who creates ‘The Monster’ or would you prefer the focus to be on ‘The Monster’ himself?
