That’s right! Fresh out of Comic-Con, the most popular MMORPG of all time is finally getting a shot at being on the big screen! With over 8 million subscribers (with an all time high of 12 million), the game has a built in fan base who will either love to see this onscreen adaptation or castrate whoever ruins their beloved game.
I’d be somewhat worried if I was Duncan Jones who has been tapped to direct the ‘World of Warcraft’ movie. While he had a blockbuster success with ‘Source Code’, and his science fiction indie release ‘Moon’ has been praised by all who have seen it, this will be a completely different type of film for him.
We don’t have much yet, but thanks to ComingSoon.Net here’s a description of the teaser that was soon during the panel:
A strange, alien desert with a growing green sky…
A storm is coming in.
A knight is standing there. He draws his sword…
There’s a discarded suit of armor. He takes the shield from a skeleton…
It’s World of Warcraft!
He’s gearing up. Creatures are coming over the hills. We follow a camera on an Orc as it moves to take, moving faster and faster….
Just as the Orc’s blade comes down, it cuts to the logo!”
“It looks GREAT. Very gritty and realistic. World of Warcraft is live action, btw, for those asking.
While a teaser is out, official shooting hasn’t started yet. Early 2014 is when production for the movie will begin and Jones knows he has a lot ahead of him. He’s not worried, though, as the first words out of his mouth when he came on stage screaming like the fan boy was: “I know how lucky I am and I’m so, so excited to do it.”
Once a teaser is available online, we’ll have it up for you to see.
Do you play ‘World of Warcraft’? Which side would you want them to follow? Are there any bosses or Easter eggs you’d prefer to see thrown in?
