Since Disney acquired LucasFilms Ltd., news (and of course rumors) have been flying as to what fans could expect from the future of the beloved ‘Star Wars’ franchise.  In addition to the announcements of new feature films, it is no surprise that Disney is anxious to add an animated ‘Star Wars’ line up of other action-packed shows on their cable network Disney XD.  The studios have just announced this new series (which spiritually, at least, replaced Cartoon Network’s ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’) will be entitled ‘Star Wars: Rebels‘ and will showcase a cast of teenage characters.

‘Star Wars’ knows a thing or two about rebellious teenagers, as Bleeding Cool remarked, “All of Luke’s first scenes are generation gap stuff, and the Annakin story saw him turning to the dark side when at his most hormonally fluctuous.”

The show will be set between Episodes III (‘Revenge of the Sith’) and IV (‘A New Hope’) showcasing the Empire’s cementing their place of power in the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi, while at the same time, the Rebel Alliance begins to form.

Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, will voice an undisclosed character at some point during the first season.  The show will be executive produced by Dave Filoni (‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’), Greg Weisman (‘Young Justice’) and Simon Kinberg (‘X-Men First Class’, ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’).  All three have contributed to well-received, fan pleasing projects, so expectations are high here!  Can they deliver again?
