Ever since it was announced that both Joss Whedon and Bryan Singer would be introducing Quicksilver in their upcoming Marvel movies, there’s been quite a bit of controversy surrounding the character. Regardless, it’s well within both filmmakers and their respective studios’ legal rights to do it, so it’s happening, even if Marvel Studios’ version won’t be allowed to mention the speedster’s mutant roots. And while there may still be a bit of a rumble from fans over these developments, the ball is already rolling on both versions of the character as Singer has announced Evan Peters to fill the role in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’. Now, it looks as if Whedon has his sights set on someone special for his project.

According to Deadline, Aaron Taylor-Johnson appears to be the top choice to play Quicksilver in ‘The Avengers 2’. No official offer has been made just yet as the actor’s busy schedule may be an issue, but he’s currently being courted as for the role and is highly desired by the studio.

This won’t be the first time that Johnson has donned spandex and played a superhero. He first came to prominence in the first ‘Kick-Ass’ film and later this summer, he’ll reprise his role in the sequel, ‘Kick-Ass 2’, when he rejoins costars Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, along with veteran funnyman Jim Carrey and a whole new legion of masked crime fighters and villains. The actor is also working on Legendary’s ‘Godzilla’ reboot with director Gareth Edwards and can be seen in other films such as ‘Savages’, ‘Nowhere Boy’, and the Academy Award nominated ‘Anna Karenina’.

Here’s a fun fact: Not only did Aaron Johnson star in ‘Kick-Ass’, but Evan Peters did as well as Dave’s friend Todd. While he doesn’t appear in the second film, it’s interesting to see a connection between the two actors up for different variations of the same character onscreen in a Marvel film. However, between the two Quicksilvers, I feel as though Johnson may have the sweeter deal if he does sign on for the role. Since Singer’s ‘Days of Future Past’ already has a huge cast, Peters’ screen time may be fairly condensed, but Joss Whedon makes it sound like Pietro and his sister Wanda, AKA the Scarlet Witch, play an integral role in the next Avengers film. Though I don’t doubt Evan Peters or his acting prowess in the slightest, I just think that Aaron Johnson might get more out of his Marvel movie experience.

Does Aaron Taylor-Johnson seem like a good choice for Quicksilver in ‘The Avengers 2’? Who else do you think Marvel should consider for the role? And who do you think should be considered for the part of the Scarlet Witch? Let us know your picks in the comments.
