We had just learned about a spoiler-filled set of cameos in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘ which has fans excited but now have learned of one that won’t be happening. Nathan Fillion was going to have another cameo in this installment which we’ve heard about for quite some time that has sadly been cut from the film. This seems to be adding on to the pile of deleted scenes which we’ve already heard about. Rumors have long had Fillion as part of the film as Wonder Man, and Gunn has confirmed that, in a way, he was.

Here’s how it broke down.

Fillion had poasted a picture of himself in a barbaric costume and piloting a ship from the film. When talking about the shot he says it was a scene cut from the film and this matched a previous photo from the set which had movie posters in the background of a scene. You can see that here:

From a scene you won’t see in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Is the movie still spectacular without it? Yes.

Unfortunately, that is all it was as according to Gunn:

While he doesn’t rule out that Fillion could indeed play Simon Williams, the actor who ends up as Wonder Man, I doubt that the character is a priority for Marvel Studios. This cameo was likely meant to mainly be a fun Easter Egg and not an introduction to the actual Wonder Man. Sadly, this looks to be one that we won’t be seeing outside of what has leaked online.

That being said, Gunn is open to the idea:

Would you want to see Nathan Fillion as Simon Williams evolving into Wonder Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or is this a character that just wouldn’t fit with what we’ve seen so far? Share your thoughts below True Believers!

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′ starring Chris Pratt, Zoë Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, Pom Klementieff, Kurt Russell, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, and Glenn Close takes off on May 5, 2017.
