In the entertainment business, sometimes you have to play clean up. Once in a while, someone might let something juicy slip or a quote might get misconstrued to mean something that you didn’t mean at all. The latest person to fall victim to this is comic book writer and Thanos creator Jim Starlin. Last fall, when James Gunn first landed the job as director of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, the father of the Mad Titan mentioned that his creation that appeared in the post-credits scene of ‘The Avengers’ would be making an appearance in Gunn’s film as well as Joss Whedon’s ‘The Avengers 2’. At the time, I said that this was more likely an educated guess rather than a confirmation, but Starlin has recently taken to Facebook to confirm my theory.

When news hit of the “confirmation” of the big baddie’s upcoming appearances in Marvel’s Phase Two, practically every outlet picked it up and reported on it. Now, Starlin is looking to clear the air by saying that he’s not actually involved with anything on the movie side of the House of Ideas. He issued the following statement on his official Facebook page:

“Setting the record straight: It keeps getting reported that I claimed that Thanos will be in both the upcoming ‘Guardians of the [Galaxy]’ and ‘The Avengers 2’ movies. Sort of true but not really. All I said, in some interview way back when, was that I had heard (as in convention scuttlebutt) that the Titan would be in both movies. I have absolutely nothing to do with Marvel films and not all that much with Marvel Comics. So I am no reliable source to quote on anything to do with what’s happening in any future Marvel film.”

There you have it. While it’s very possible that Thanos could be popping up in both films, nothing is 100% confirmed yet. Well, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ probably is, but that’s not public knowledge yet, but even if it’s not, we do know that some characters confirmed to be in the film have a connection to him, so it’s likely that the villain will manifest in some way shape or form.

Do you have any theories as to how the Mad Titan will make an appearance in Marvel’s Phase Two? Do you think that he’ll be the main villain in ‘The Avengers 2’? Could he even be a problem for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Phase Three? Share your guesses in the usual spot.
