As they often do these days, rumors about Marvel films have been swirling around the internet leading up to the official announcement of the commencement of production. One bit of speculation making circulation was that Hayley Atwell would be making a return to reprise her role as Peggy Carter in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’. Most found that very odd since the film is to be set in the present day, so that would make Cap’s one-time main squeeze a good bit older than we last saw her and a perfect candidate for a recast. Sure, there’s the possibility of flashbacks, but many remained skeptical.

Well, once production started two weeks ago on Steve Rogers’ next solo feature, it was revealed that Atwell would indeed be returning to the role. However, before we find out how the WWII vet pops into the Sentinel of Liberty’s life again, the actress playing her revealed that Agent Carter’s fans will be happy to know that they’ll be seeing her in action once again before the sequel to ‘Captain America: The First Avengers’ hits theaters. According to an interview with The Age, the actress shared that a Peggy Carter short film is in the works and could premiere this summer:

“There’s been an online campaign for Peggy to be featured. People really liked her. So Marvel have made sure that as part of Comic-Con there will be a little kind of snapshot as to what Peggy’s actually really capable of, which was finished here and which was great fun. Hopefully, it will lead to other things.”

After the success of the Marvel One Shots on the Phase One DVDs featuring Agent Phil Coulson, there were talks of more shorts like that in the future, even after Couslon’s fate in ‘The Avengers’. Could the next one feature Peggy Carter? Maybe Howard Stark would make an appearance as well since Dominic Cooper made mention of the possibility of returning to the role recently.

Also, she doesn’t actually say “short film”, so it’s possible that Marvel Studios has something else up their sleeves. Either way, it seems like there are plans in place for the world to see more of Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter in the near future.
