Production on Marc Webb’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ has been well underway in New York. So far, we’ve managed to get some good looks at the protagonists of the film like Mary Jane Watson, Gwen Stacy, and, of course, Spider-Man, but we haven’t seen much of the villains at all. All that changes today as set photos have revealed Jamie Foxx in full costume as Electro.

Below, we get our first look at the electrifying villain Max Dillon. As we learned previously, Electro wouldn’t be sporting his signature green and yellow attire from the comics in the film. Instead, he was said to have more realistic attire. After looking at these pictures, I think that you’ll agree that the attire is realistic, but you might be surprised by something else. Check out the photos in the gallery below:

First of all, the reports say that this scene takes place before Electro adopts his final costume, so he won’t just be tangoing with Spidey rocking a hoodie. Secondly, take note of the white tracking dots. The final product will likely feature some CGI to enhance the overall look of the character. Finally, and I can’t overlook this fact, Jamie Foxx looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze from ‘Batman & Robin’. Part of me is really hoping for some good electricity puns in this movie.

Chill out, Mr. Freeze. You’re not being replaced.

Joking aside, Electro definitely resembles the version of the character associated with the Ultimates Universe, which is something that we see fairly commonly in Marvel movies these days. They all try to stay as close to real world portrayals as possible, and that approach seems to be working, so why not keep it up? We’re definitely not in the age of Joel Schumacher’s superheroes anymore. Yeah, the blue is a bit shocking at first glance, but I’m sure Webb has something up his sleeve to not make it come across as corny onscreen. Also, this isn’t the first time that we’ve seen the electric blue associated with the character either. Disney XD’s ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ depicts the character in a similar fashion, so it’s worked before.

What do you think of Electro’s new look in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’? Were you able to resist saying that Jamie Foxx blue himself for the role? I tried but couldn’t. Share your reactions to the character (along with your best lightning puns) in the comments below.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field, and Chris Cooper is set to hit theaters in 3D on May 2, 2014.
