Last month, we reported that Latino Review had scooped the news that Christopher Nolan, the acclaimed director of the recent Dark Knight trilogy, had been handed the reigns to DC’s entire movie universe and that Christian Bale, the million dollar Batman, was being courted to reprise the role in the new franchise.  But recently in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, the president of the Warner Brothers Pictures Group, Jeff Robinov, defuses those rumors completely.  When asked if the rumors were true, he flatly states, “No, no it’s not.” The site adds: Nolan’s reps, who have previously declined to comment on that rumor, also confirmed Robinov’s statement and told EW that he definitely wasn’t involved with Justice League. Nolan is currently busy prepping his sci-fi film Interstellar.

Cryptically, when asked about the previous Batman franchise and whether those movies exist in their own universe, he responded, “They do. Or they did.”  So has that changed?  Personally, I think he is simply referring to the fact that that trilogy is over and the new DC Universe is about to begin with an all new Batman.

He does state that the upcoming Man of Steel is setting up a new playing field where “Anything can live in this world.  [Nolan’s] Batman was deliberately and smartly positioned as a stand-alone. The world they lived in was very isolated without any knowledge of any other superheroes. What Zack and Chris have done with this film is allow you to really introduce other characters into the same world.”  Certainly sounds like they are straying from Nolan’s down-to-earth, gritty reality and opening the door to a realm where Atlantean kings, Amazon princesses and intergalactic policemen can logically co-exist.

He teased, “We’ll announce something in the next several weeks that will hopefully position the DC characters and the movies we’re going to be making.”

Hopefully, this means, a la Marvel, they will announce a finalized first wave of movies, with planned release dates.  We are moving into convention season, so expect information to be dished out at all the big cons.

So how do you feel about this info?  Were you yearning for the returns of Nolan and Bale?  Or were you dreading them?  Which movies do you want to see next?  And what about Green Lantern?  Bring back Ryan Reynolds or go for a hard reboot?  Heck, why not a different Lantern, like John Stewart to add diversity (and ensure that DC doesn’t kill him off in the comics)?
