It’s been a few years since writer Warren Ellis has graced the pages of Marvel Comics with his expertise. Though he’s been in the news lately since his Extremis storyline plays out in the upcoming ‘Iron Man 3’, the last time that he actually wrote for the House of Ideas was back in 2010 with the mini-series ‘Astonishing X-Men: Xenogenesis’. But coming this fall to revitalize the company’s Original Graphic Novel (OGN) line, Ellis will be presenting the all-new story titled ‘Avengers: Endless Wartime’.

Recently, with the genesis of Marvel NOW!, Jonathan Hickman has established a new status quo for Earth’s Mightiest heroes in ‘Avengers’ and ‘New Avengers’, but Ellis’ ‘Endless Wartime’ will be a standalone story told out of continuity with the current Marvel universe. Regardless, it will still feature some of the biggest heroes around like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Wolverine, Hawkeye, and Captain Marvel. To learn more about what sort of thing they’ll be getting into, here’s the official synopsis of the story:

An abomination, long thought buried, has resurfaced in a war-torn land. But now it wears an American flag. Faced with another nightmare reborn, Captain America will not stand for yet more death at the hands of a ghost from his past. Haunted by his greatest shame, Thor must renew the hunt for a familiar beast. At their side, an assemblage of allies united to end the threats no one of them could face alone. They are soldiers. Warriors. Comrades-in-arms. Mighty heroes led by a living legend, stronger together than apart. They are the Avengers.

Not only will ‘Avengers: Endless Wartime’ feature an epic, movie-level story by Warren Ellis and art by Mike McKone, but it’ll also include an introduction from Clark Gregg, who is better known as Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s films such as ‘Iron Man’ and ‘The Avengers’ and the upcoming ABC show ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’, and an afterward from one of the founding fathers of Marvel Comics, the living legend himself, Stan ‘The Man’ Lee.

Along with the announcement of this first book in Marvel’s new line of graphic novels, Comic Book Resources has a preview of the book’s first few pages. You can see them in the gallery below, along with the cover art for the book:

After looking over all the details, ‘Avengers: Endless Wartime’ has all the ingredients for a winning combination. Not only does it have an amazing New York Times Best Seller writing the story, but it features so many characters that the public has come to know and love, especially the new readers who have turned to the comics after the popularity of ‘The Avengers’ and all the other Marvel movies.
