When she was first cast as the vivacious firecracker of Peter Parker’s life, many people had their doubts about Shailene Woodley playing Mary Jane Watson in Marc Webb’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’. But even if you haven’t turned a new leaf (like I have), it appears that you won’t be seeing much of MJ in the follow-up to last year’s Spider-Man reboot because it appears that Woodley has finished up her work with Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and company.

According to /Film, Woodley wrapped her small role late last week and is already off to Chicago to star in Summit Entertainment’s adaptation of Veronica Roth’s dystopian novel ‘Divergent’. In fact, as the actress was leaving her Soho hotel last Thursday, she had already swapped out her Mary Jane’s red hair for a more blonde look for her next role. Though it’s possible that she may be called back again for reshoots before the whole production finishes up.

While she may not have a big role in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, the report says that Mary Jane “blossoms into an integral lead” by the end of the film to set up for a much larger part in the third one. If Marc Webb is following the storyline that we all think that he is, it’s likely that MJ will be there for Peter when Gwen Stacy meets her demise by the end of the trilogy.

How involved do you think Mary Jane will be in the plot of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’? What are your thoughts on Shailene Woodley playing the iconic redhead? Are you still sour on it, or are you open to see just how she plays it? Share your thoughts in the comments.

For more information on Spider-Man’s latest big screen adventure, here’s the official synopsis for the film:

For Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field, and Chris Cooper is set to swing into theaters on May 2, 2014.
