Batman: Arkham City was a dream come true for fans of the Caped Crusader. Not only did it surpass Arkham Asylum in quality and polish, which many thought to be an impossible task, it allowed gamers to play through familiar stories and face off against classic villains in one, brilliantly connected plot.

Of course, the ending left players with a ton of questions, and it looks like we may get the answers much sooner than expected. John K. Martin, CFO of Time Warner, recently let it slip that the new Batman game is coming this year instead of in 2014. According to the Yahoo! Finance transcript of a recent investor call, Martin stated:

“… And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise… So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013. And with a little luck, the year should be as good or maybe even a little bit better than 2012.”

There are almost no details available about the next Arkham game, aside from rumors that it will be a prequel set in the Silver Age era, with members of the Justice League making appearances. Rocksteady had previously hinted that they would not be doing another Batman game, though this was never officially confirmed.

Batman: Arkham Asylum was received with nothing but positive reviews when it released in 2009, and its sequel, Batman: Arkham City went on to win several Game of the Year awards in 2011.
