About 5 months ago, it was announced that M. Night Shyamalan would be heading from the big screen to the small screen to try his hand at a different sort of storytelling. Back then, it was a pilot for SyFy called ‘Proof’, but now the director is getting into the event series game with FX.
According to Deadline, Shyamalan is the executive producer of a new show called ‘Wayward Pines’, which is based on a best-selling novel by Blake Crouch that’s described as “an intense, mind-bending thriller evocative of the classic cult hit ‘Twin Peaks’”. Here’s the description that the report gives on what the show is about:
Secret Service agent Ethan Burke arrives in the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, ID, on a mission to find two missing federal agents. But instead of answers, Ethan’s investigation only turns up more questions. What’s wrong with Wayward Pines? Each step closer to the truth takes Ethan further from the life he knew, from the husband and father he was, until he must face the terrifying reality that he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive.
Chad Hodge, creator of the unfortunately short-lived NBC show ‘The Playboy Club’, wrote the pilot and the series is envisioned as a 10-12 episode limited series, similar to ‘American Horror Story’.
No word on if the ‘After Earth’ helmer will step into the director’s chair for this seres in addition to his executive producer duties, but the possibility isn’t completely out of the question yet.
What do you think about M. Night’s new project? Does ‘Wayward Pines’ sound like something you’d be interested in? I say as long as the trees didn’t do it (whatever it is), they’re in good shape. Share your thoughts in the comments below!
