The extremely successful animated hit ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ (voiced by Drake Bell) is swinging back onto the air for a second season on January 21st of 2013! The premiere will be an hour long two-part episode that will feature the Lizard (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) and Electro. To take these two on, though, everyone’s favorite webhead will not be battling alone as on his side will also be Nova, White Tiger, Iron Fist and Power Man.

According to Marvel, the new series will be premiering on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. ET during the Marvel Universe portion of Disney XD.

Word has it that Season 2 is going to go well beyond the original scope of the first season. While the last iteration of The Avengers animated show called ‘Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, was cancelled,  Marvel’s ‘Avengers Assemble‘ is soon to be released. With it, we are going to be seeing some crossovers with Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, the Hulk and Hawkeye helping the web slinger. With that much stopping power on his side,  nothing can go wrong for Spidey right? Well he will need the backup being offered here because we’re also going to see the first incarnation of the Sinister Six enter ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’.

Having to battle Rhino, Kraven the Hunter, Lizard, Electro, Beetle and a mysterious sixth member would be tough enough for Spider-Man alone but all at once? Usually if you think of the Sinister Six you think of a certain Doctor in the last spot. Will the show continue this tradition with what’s just happened in mainstream Marvel?

Honestly it doesn’t matter who’s in the last spot – Spider-Man is going to need all the help he can get! Not only will he need help going up against some of his greatest villians, but in this season we’re also going to see the return of Loki. While defeating a God once was difficult enough, he’s going to have even more in store for the wall crawler this season.

‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ is not just a well put together cartoon for the kids but also a great animated adventure for those of us who want to see continuing adventures of our favorite Marvel characters. With the upcoming release of the Avengers in the same format, it will be an open world to an extent they can’t yet do in a feature film format.

Airing Sundays on Disney XD, “Ultimate Spider-Man” stars Drake Bell as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Chi McBride as Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, Steven Weber as Norman Osborn, Greg Cipes as Danny Rand/Iron Fist, Ogie Banks as Luke Cage/Power Man, Caitlyn Taylor Love as Ava Ayala/White Tiger, Logan Miller as Sam Alexander/Nova, Tom Kenny as Doctor Octopus, Matt Lanter as Harry Osborn/Flash Thompson, Tara Strong as Mary-Jane Watson, Misty Lee as Aunt May and recurring guest star, Stan Lee, as Stan the Janitor.
