After years of hardships in trying to get the film on the big screen, the third installment the Riddick adventures has finally received a release date. According to actor Vin Diesel’s Facebook page, Universal has announced that the new film, ‘Riddick,’ will be in theaters on September 6th.

Riddick’s exploits began in 2000 with the film ‘Pitch Black.’ The movie became such a cult hit that a tent pole sequel, ‘The Chronicles of Riddick,’ was made in 2004. Unfortunately that film was not as successful as its predecessor only earning $115 million on a budget of $105 million. But that didn’t stop Diesel or director/writer David Twohy from moving forward for a third film.

With support from fans on his Facebook page, Diesel was able to update the progress of ‘Riddick’ with reports and photos. Even after various financial difficulties, a modest budget of only $60 million and a temporary closure of production, ‘Riddick’ is finally completed and ready to hit theaters. Diesel seemed overwhelmed as he wrote on his page:

Our page has been up for over three years…

Before FB knew what a million fans was… you pioneers of social media were chanting for the next chapter. So for me, it is surreal to look back at some of the older posts, and the comments that followed. Even the discussion boards… haha, I remember a great thread one of you created comparing biblical characters to the Furyan. The art work you have created over the years… you made it happen.

September 6th 2013

You really do inspire me… and your voice is manifesting, what you want to see… and yeah, that’s cool.

P.s. I know, I am talking too much… but I am proud of you…

So mark your calendars fellow Furyans as the anti-heroic and dangerous escaped convict Riddick returns with an all new adventure that, from the sounds of it, will live up to the fans’ expectations. Hopefully now that an announcement has been made, a trailer will soon follow!

Are you ready for the next cheaper?

Synopsis:

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.
