Have you been watching the latest in the ‘Battlestar Galactica’ franchise? ‘BSG: Blood and Chrome’ debuted last week on Machinima’s YouTube channel and the response for the first two episodes have been amazing! The action of the opening Viper/Raider dogfight, the use of CGI, the explanation of the initial rise of the Cylons, and watching Adama ‘s awestruck response upon seeing Galactica for the first time is enough to sway any fan from thinking the web episodes would be subpar to any of the franchise’s television series.
This week, episodes 3 and 4 have been uploaded and the action picks up where it left off with Adama and Coker heading into Cylon territory and making a startling discovery that may affect the war.
One of the things producer/creator David Eick had wanted to accomplish in this web series was to continue on the history of the Cylons – to bridge their story from their very beginnings in ‘Caprica’ to how they became more human-like in ‘Batttlstar Galactica:’
“… I think what the viewers of this ‘Blood & Chrome’ story, these ten segments, will discover is that as the Cylons embark on their decision to mimic and surpass human beings, which is a storyline that those who watch Battlestar Galactica knows all too well, they didn’t do it overnight. It’s not like they were machines with gears and rivets one day and then have soft skin the next day. They took time to attempt to approximate an evolution. If they’d done their homework, they wouldn’t know the human beings didn’t start out as human beings because they went through [a] fish stage, [an] amphibious stage, a bird stage and a reptile stage before finally becoming mammals. Throughout this story, we will see examples of those approximations of evolution. How the Cylons were attempting to push through their evolutionary process in becoming more human-like and the results can be terrifying and unexpected.”
