In the original ‘Evil Dead’ film there exists the Necronomicon Ex Mortis, otherwise known as the Book of the Dead. As Ash Williams described it, the book is “bound in human flesh and inked in blood, this ancient Sumerian text contained bizarre burial rites, funerary incantations and demon resurrection passages.” So, of course, what would a remake of the movie be without this essential book?

Thanks to the ‘Evil Dead’ Facebook page, we get our first look of the Necronomicon! It’s the most conniving  sadistic book in demonic history. Written by the Dark Ones, it has the power to control an army of Deadites bent on ruling the world. It’s no wonder that the Facebook page offers the warning: “Don’t Say It. Don’t Write It. Don’t Hear It. Don’t Share It.”

Fans of the original movies will immediately notice that the book cover is faceless, but it still looks pretty ghastly with the bloody handprints on the inside pages and the warning “He’ll suck your soul dry” next to some diabolical monster.

Oh! And if you happen to accidently deal with the book, try speaking the incantation “Klaatu Barada Nikto” – but make sure you don’t mispronounce it!

Synopsis:

Directed by Fede Alvarez, the film focuses on five twenty-something friends who become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead. An archaeologist’s tape recording reveals that the ancient text was discovered among the Khandarian ruins of a Sumerian civilization. Playing the taped incantations, the youths unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.
