While most of the promotional material for ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ has so far focused on Bilbo and the dwarves, this new poster reminds everyone that there is darkness just beyond the horizon.
The new poster print that is being offered for purchase by Film Cells features four of Middle Earth’s most powerful beings – Gandalf (Ian McKellen), Galadriel (Cate Blanchett), Elrond (Hugo Weaving), and Saruman (Christopher Lee) – gathered together in Rivendell.
While the White Council plays a more predominant role in ‘The Lord of the Rings’, their presence was referenced to in the appendices of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ book which director Peter Jackson and his writing team have taken in order to expand ‘The Hobbit’ into a trilogy. To add some foreshadowing (since ‘The Hobbit’ does occur some 60 year before ‘LOTR’), the White Council was brought together again. Not to say they don’t play an important plot point as their presence will help audiences understand what Gandalf’s role is in the film and the part he played in the beginning which set in motion the events that occurred in ‘The Lord of the Rings’.
Just seeing the four together brings back memories of how awesomely powerful they were and I can’t wait to see how what Jackson has in store for them in ‘The Hobbit’ trilogies.
Check out the poster below and if you’d like a copy, head over to Film Cell.
‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ will open in 2D, 3D, and IMAX on December 14th.
