Most classic horror movies didn’t scare me a child as much as Chucky did. As a kid who had a good amount of action figures, I was constantly afraid that they’d come to life and terrorize me like Chucky did. But as I got older, the fear waned because not only did I buy fewer toys, but also they stopped making Chucky movies. Well, Universal (via Collider) announced today that production has just begun on an all-new movie in the ‘Child’s Play’ franchise called ‘Curse of Chucky’. Great. Just great.

Written and directed by Don Mancini, the man who’s written or co-written every installment of the series thus far, ‘Curse of Chucky’ began principle photography in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada yesterday, September 5th. This straight to DVD release will star Fiona Dourif, A Martinez, Danielle Bisutti, Brennan Elliott, and Brad Dourif, who reprises his role as the voice of the demon doll possessed by serial killer Charles Lee Ray.

The General Manager and Executive Vice President of Universal 1440 Entertainment, Glenn Ross, had this to say about the upcoming film:

“Since his introduction to audiences in ‘Child’s Play’ almost a quarter-century ago, Chucky has haunted the nightmares of a generation of moviegoers. Returning to his roots in one of the most provocative horror franchises, this new sequel will shock longtime fans of the series and newcomers alike.”
