We’ve heard time and again that after ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Christopher Nolan is finished with Batman. However, he didn’t say that the book is closed on other characters from his universe.

In an interview with Access Hollywood (via Geek Tyrant), the director revealed that he’d like to see Anne Hathaway reprise her role as Catwoman in her own spin-off film. Now, before you go on getting your hopes up, he says again that he’s done with the franchise, but maybe he has someone else in mind take up the helm and make it happen. Here’s what he had to say about Hathaway’s portrayal of Miss Selina Kyle:

“Anne is incredibly precise and articulate about the psychology of the character. She’s really built it from the ground up, it’s just a delight to watch her perform. … She’s an incredible character and we’re very excited to see her, and hopefully we’ll leave people wanting more.

For me, Gotham and these characters, I’m done. I’ve told our story and I’m moving on … [but] I certainly think she deserves it, she’s incredible.”

That’s a pretty stellar recommendation from a highly respected individual who very likely has Warner Brothers’ ear on these matters, so maybe we will be seeing this Catwoman movie some day. And while we haven’t seen this new incarnation of the character in action yet other than short clips here and there, but hopefully this proposed spin-off would be better than Halle Berry’s 2004 train wreck.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ starring Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine opens in theaters this Friday, July 20, 2012.
