While I have been enjoying this series thus far because it’s been delivering exactly what it promised with the title, I was beginning to wonder how the story would continue all the way to twelve issues. Well, issue five is where you find out how.

As seen in the last issue, Wolverine took Hope to the Blue Area of the moon under the pretense that he would be helping her. Well, his idea of helping was different than hers, so the Avengers showed up. Then, when the X-Men show up, so does the Phoenix Force, and that’s where this issue opens up.

First of all, I enjoyed Matt Fraction’s inner monologue for Hope throughout the book. It was an interesting allusion to real life events. Next, at this point in the story, I really am convinced that Cyclops is off his rocker. He just won’t listen to reason anymore. Finally, when I got to the reveal, I literally said out loud, “Whoa…” I didn’t see that coming. I don’t think anyone else could have seen that coming. It was one of those moments where I was really caught up in the action and then when this something big happened, I had to stop for a second and acknowledge the awesomeness that just occurred.

I feel like I say this after every issue in this series, but I can’t wait for the next issue. This one is a game-changer, and considering that the next issue is the midpoint in the story, I’m predicting that something even bigger will happen. And this something bigger may not be very good for the Avengers.

Verdict: Buy
