Sundance Productions was founded in 2006 and since then has had some great success in producing some high profile films such as ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’ and ‘True Grit.’ Now the company is entering the original programming forum and is looking to develop and produce its own material.
One of their first projects will be a science fiction adventure film. Deadline is reporting that the production company has hired Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier to write the screen-play based on an idea developed at Skydance.
As with all things Hollywood, the story line is being kept hush-hush but both scribes do have experience in the genre. Kalogridis has written and executive produced the television series ‘Bionic Woman’ and ‘Birds of Prey.’ She’s also credited for writing Martin Scorsese’s ‘Shutter Island’, Oliver Stone’s ‘Alexander’ and the upcoming James Cameron film ‘Battle Angel’ (she also executive produced on the film ‘Avatar’). Lussier’s experience is more on the horror side with writing credits on the Wes Craven’s ‘Dracula’ trilogy, ‘My Bloody Valentine’ and ‘Drive Angry.’
Skydance is making a name for itself co-producing and co-financing some major films such as ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’, ‘Star Trek 2 ’and ‘World War Z.’ They have another 15 projects in development of which ‘The Strange Case of Hyde’ and ‘Star Blazers’ are a part of. With the onslaught of science fiction movies being rebooted (‘Total Recall’, ‘Short Circuit’, ‘Judge Dredd’ to name a few), it will be very refreshing to see something original added into the mix.
Once we find out what this untitled secretive movie is all about, we’ll let you know!
