‘The Avengers’ Thor And Captain America Fighting Aliens Clip

I don’t know if you’ve heard or not, but there’s a little film coming out on May 4th that brings together some of the biggest heroes known to mankind in one movie. This comic book company that Disney put together with that guy who wrote ‘Toy Story’. It must be a big deal or something because there’s news about it everywhere!

Obviously, I’m talking about Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’. And yes, Joss Whedon really did write the first ‘Toy Story’. IMDB it if you don’t believe me. Anyway, I’ve got some of the more interesting bits of Avengers news for you that have come out over the past few days.

Firstly, I have a clip for you courtesy of Digital Spy. Here we see Captain America and Thor battling side by side against Loki’s alien army. It’s worth sharing to show off, not only because of the bromanship (that’s bros + showmanship) in battle, but also because you get a glimpse of Loki’s army. By now, I’m sure we all know that they’re not the Krees or the Skrulls, so the jury is still out on what they actually are, and some people want to see more of them before sitting down in the theater to watch the movie. Check out the clip below.

In case you could not get a good enough look at the aliens in the clip, here are a couple movie stills to feast your eyes on:

Whedon recently confirmed at a press conference which alien race in the Marvel universe they come from and had this to say:

“The alien race are the Chitauri — or a version of them — because they are not one of the key races and they don’t have a storied history. That wasn’t the point. I know this debate will go on long after I’m dead. I would say it was the Kree-Skrull race.”

‘The Avengers’ Cut Scenes News

Next up is a report about what ended up on the cutting room floor. If you’re like me, you’ve seen ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’. If you didn’t, then it’s unlikely that you’d click on this article anyway, but just in case *SPOILER ALERT*. Regardless, everyone was heartbroken at the end when Cap had to skip out on his date with the lovely Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell, because he sacrifices himself to save the world.

However, Joss Whedon was fully prepared to set into motion a “better late than never” scenario. In an interview with the New York Times (via /Film), Whedon planned on including a scene where Steve and Peggy meet up in the present day. It’s understandable that this scene got cut because there’s already a whole lot going on in ‘The Avengers’, and we wouldn’t want to tarnish it by jamming all these additional scenes into it. On the bright side, if Peggy Carter is still alive in 2012, maybe we’ll see her in ‘Captain America 2’. We can only hope.

Here’s the quote from Joss Whedon on the scene that ended up on the cutting room floor:

“One of the best scenes that I wrote was the beautiful and poignant scene between Steve and Peggy [Carter] that takes place in the present. And I was the one who was like, Guys, we need to lose this. It was killing the rhythm of the thing. And we did have a lot of Cap, because he really was the ‘in’ for me. I really do feel a sense of loss about what’s happening in our culture, loss of the idea of community, loss of health care and welfare and all sorts of things. I was spending a lot of time having him say it, and then I cut that.”

‘The Avengers’ Post Production Scene Being Filmed

And now we have the best for last. The world premiere for ‘The Avengers’ was on Wednesday. Maybe some of you watched the live stream of the red carpet. On Thursday, the cast participated in a press conference and many sites are reporting that Robert Downey Jr. had this to say at the end: “We are shooting one more scene.  Tonight.  Not kidding.” After that, the moderator said no more questions and the cast and crew left. What?! Not possible… Is it?

At the second press conference, Collider is reporting that director Joss Whedon denied that those claims were true. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, who was notably irritated when RDJ made those comments, told /Film, “Do you always trust everything Robert Downey Jr. tells you?” Well, he didn’t deny it.

However, Mark Ruffalo spoke to The Playlist and confirmed the extra scene. Ruffalo said:

“We’re shooting a scene tonight. I’m not sure exactly where it’s gonna go. All I know is that someone came in with the costume and said, ‘Here’s some wardrobe. We don’t know where you’re going to be or what you’re doing.’ ” When asked if it will be in ‘The Avengers’ when it hits theaters Ruffalo added, “Yeah. So I’m like, ‘All right, when are we doing that?’ Today after we’re done.”

Yes, I know that Ruffalo and RDJ could just be playing around with fanboys and bloggers like me, but, BUT let’s look at the facts. Marvel famously left Samuel L. Jackson’s surprise appearance at the end of ‘Iron Man’ out of the press screenings. Joss Whedon shot the sequence at the end of ‘Thor’ months after the production had wrapped. Reports are saying that there is a post-credits scene in the movie already that teases another Avengers movie, but could this new scene tease another Marvel movie? Based on who made/confirmed the comments, could the new scene be teasing ‘Iron Man 3’, which is the next Marvel movie to come out after ‘The Avengers’? Maybe it’s teasing something with The Hulk/Bruce Banner, like that TV show that’s in development at ABC or Ruffalo’s own Hulk movie. The possibilities are endless! We can speculate till the cows come home, but we won’t get a real answer until May 4th.

That’s a whole lot of good stuff, isn’t it? Let me know what you think about it all in the comments below.
