Cowabunga, dudes!  Not too long ago we reported that Michael Bay declared that the “…turtles are from an alien race…” Those 5 words in a 15 second clip caused a firestorm of outrage across the world even prompting one fan to start a Facebook page called ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Are Not Aliens Michael Bay.’

In an open letter to Bay that was published on TMZ, Robbie Rist, the actor who voiced Michealangelo in the original 1990 movie, accused Bay of sodomizing the TMNT legacy:

“You probably don’t know me but I did some voice work on the first set of movies that you are starting to talk about sodomizing.  I know believing in mutated talking turtles is kinda silly to begin with but am I supposed to be led to believe there are ninjas from another planet? The rape of our childhood memories continues…”

After dodging the all the empty pizza boxes that were mentally being thrown in Bay’s way, the producer of the live action reboot finally made a statement on his site Shoot for the Edit:

Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world. – Michael

Relax? Chill? Them’s fightin’ words, Mr. Bay! Although we have not read the script, your reputation precedes you, sir.

Whether Bay’s statement is him backpedaling and trying not to cause more of an outrage remains to be seen. The script is still being worked on by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec. Playing the devil’s advocate, however, Bay could just be impounding on the original origin idea that the ooze that mutated the turtles were created by the alien race called the Utroms and Bay could have misspoken and this is what he meant about the Turtles being “from an alien race.” However, this is from the same guy that altered the ‘Transformers’ universe and it was his idea to add the hideous Cylon-looking aliens in the new ‘Battleship’ movie. Worse yet, he hasn’t clarified or denied his statement. He just told us to “chill.”

As for his comment about “working closely with one of the original creators,” which original creator is he working with? According to Ninja Pizza, it’s not Peter Laird as he’s “absolutely not involved in any of the new projects.” As for the other creator, Kevin Eastman, unless they are consulting with him now, the only involvement he mentioned he had with the project was last year in an interview when he had said he had seen the script.

Bay’s statement has not alleviated my fears about this new live action-CGI reboot. Has it for you? Hopefully more information will be revealed when the film goes into production sometime this year.
