It’s that time of year again when most pilots start shooting, but it looks like one lucky project is already under consideration for next season at ABC.  According to Deadline, ABC Studios has already picked up the ‘Contagion’-like drama titled ‘Infection’.

Written on spec by Soo Hugh of ‘The River’ and developed by producer Aaron Kaplan, ‘Infection’ chronicles a pandemic sweeping the nation. Five years after the President orders construction of a border to halt the spread of the disease, the series picks up as survivors on both sides fight to bring the country back together.

Kaplan, who has acted as producer on ‘Terra Nova’ and ‘GCB’, is fairly successful with specs considering that three out of his four broadcast pilots were ordered this season. Now that ABC has staked claim to ‘Infection’, Kaplan’s relationship with the network where he has two pilots, the untitled Dan Fogelman alien half-hour and ‘The Manzanis’, and a series, ‘GCB’, has grown exponentially.

Of course, there is no guarantee that ‘Infection’ will spread to next season’s schedule. ABC is simply covering the bill on production, then if they like the pilot, we may see it get picked up for a season order.
