In exciting news for both Whovians and Trekkies, comic book publisher IDW has announced that they will be publishing the first official cross-over story between ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ called ‘Assimilation2.’
‘Assimilation2’ will be an eight issue series and will feature Captain Picard and his crew joining forces with the Doctor and the Ponds as they fight to save the universe against a Cyberman/Borg alliance.
The story was co-written by current longtime ‘Doctor Who’ comic author Tony Lee and ‘Star Trek Infestation’ comic book authors Scott and David Tipton. Illustrated by J.K. Woodward (‘Falling Angel’), the comic book will have a limited edition wrap around photo cover version as well as a variant cover featuring the Doctor, Amy and Rory aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise from Joe Corroney (‘Star Trek Ongoing’).
Soumya Sriraman, Executive Vice President Home Entertainment and Licensing, said of the collaboration:
“We are excited about this new adventure for the Doctor and the fact that he will be travelling with Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his iconic crew. This is a perfect partnership for not only Doctor Who’s incredible fans, but also for the brand.”
Liz Kalodner, Executive VP and General Manager of CBS Consumer Products adds, “By joining these two sci-fi powerhouses, fans will be taken on the ultimate adventure through time and space.”
This is exciting news as fans have wanted to see a crossover of this magnitude for years. Thousands of fan fiction stories have brought the two franchises together but now we have the first official story which could be considered canon. It will be exciting to see the most popular time traveler team up with the one of the most popular crews of the Enterprise for an adventure where no man has ever gone before.
‘Assimilation2’ will be available in stores in May!
