Ridley Scott’s pseudo-sorta-maybe-prequel to the ‘Alien’ franchise isn’t set to hit theaters until summer of 2012 but the director just gave fans an early Christmas present this past week by allowing Entertainment Weekly to publish some images of the secretive filming of the project.

What the images actually reveal or, more importantly, if they reveal whether or not this is actually an ‘Alien’ movie is debatable. So what exactly do the images show? We get a good look at stars Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron in their space suits standing next to some rows of canisters that may or may not be some sort of prototype of the alien eggs. Oh… and we also get a look at a giant head hinting at some ancient civilization.

The IMDb synopsis of ‘Prometheus’ doesn’t give us much to go on either…

“A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.”

But whatever ‘Prometheus’ actually is… it looks frakkin’ amazing! I haven’t been this excited for a sci-fi film in a long while and this thing does look good!

‘Prometheus’ is directed by Ridley Scott, stars Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Patrick Wilson, Idris Elba, Noomi Rapace, and Guy Pearce. It will hit US theaters on June 8, 2012.
