Yesterday, the internet was treated with some on-set images and video of Christian Bale and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in costume on the set of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. Today, yet another set of images have hit the web from the set. There are no characters to be seen in this set but it does give a better look at Bane’s doomsday device that we first got a good look at last month.

Some comic book sites are calling Bane’s device an “earthquake machine”. I’m not sure where that name comes from or if it’s based in any fact. But, keeping in mind that this is Bane we’re talking about, I wouldn’t be surprised if it were something that would shake Gotham to the ground. Now if that would only lead to Nolan helming up another few films that adapt the comic tale of “No Man’s Land”, I’d be in heaven. But I digress. The images also give us yet another look at the Batwing. It appears as if the Batwing may be planning to move the device (possibly flying it away before it can go ka-boom, maybe?).

Don’t touch that, random set guy! It could shake you up!

Looks like even the citizens of Gotham love ‘Call of Duty’.

All of these images are courtesy of Super Hero Hype’ Raganork8, who also gave the following description of the character of Nixon (played by Matthew Modine):

“So the day was long and there wasn’t much we could do to bring you back stuff (sorry)

They started early and were shooting Stock Exchange Employees coming out of the Stock Exchange Building with their hands up as if they were being held up, then something happens and they dive to either side in a panic and Bane Mercs on Motorcycles come barreling down the steps with hostages on their backs and down the street into an alley.

(they also shot the Mercs going inside)

They later would shoot the Bane Mercs going down an alley.

Modine was there the entire time and when the Exchange workers come out he’s first in line then when they jump out the way he looks shocked (like what the hell?!) when the mercs drive past he, JGL and a host of cops are shooting at them.

Modine was definitely in charge of the police force. He had a gun and a walkie talkie at some points.

They shot some scenes with a cop car screeching to halt and someone coming out but, we couldn’t see who (Modine and JGL probably)

Bale wasn’t there, if he was he was super secretive and didn’t shoot while we were there.

We can within INCHES of Nolan when a P.A. walked us through the set as he was explaining how to set up another shot.

Later on down the block they filmed the Batwing, it didn’t do anything just suspended on wires and hanging above the “earthquake” machine. The machine lights up!?

They shot it on Imax but looked like they were going to do CGI with most of it

Modine looks like Harvey Dent, same dress wear, I’d be shocked if he wasn’t D.A.

But since gotham STATEpolice cars were there he may be a state government officer.”

It definitely looks and sounds like there’s a lot of action in this final part of the Dark Knight trilogy but I keep waiting to see something that shows Nolan’s genius and that understanding of these characters that he’s displayed for the past two films. Maybe once the trailer finally hits, we’ll get it.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is directed by Christopher Nolan and comes out July 20, 2012 starring Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine.

Update: New photos and video hit the web just after this posting. The new images (seen below) show some motor cycle ruffians in the middle of what looks like a bank robbery. There’s also a great image of Christian Bale and Matthew Modine evidently enjoying being kidnapped by biker goons.

Some video footage of the motor cycle filming:
