It looks like ‘Justice League’ #1 isn’t the only comic book to reach phenomenal sales this week. On August 24th, IDW and Nickelodeon launched a new series of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ that harkens back to the original tales from creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. After a week of rave reviews (including one from our own Brian Tudor), the first issue of the series has completely sold out from the distributor.
The IDW series is a new take on the Turtles with input from original Turtle co-creator Kevin Eastman. Eastman handles writing with co-writer Tom Waltz (‘G.I. Joe’, ‘Ghostbusters: Displaced Aggression’) and does art layout before he hands it over to Dan Duncan to complete the final art. Covers for the first and second issues are from the legendary Sam Keith and Walter Simonson.
IDW and TMNT co-creator Laird are ecstatic about the reaction to the series. Laird had this to say about the book selling out: “WOW! What a wonderful welcome back. Although this never could have been possible without such amazing and creative teams at Nickelodeon and IDW to work with, NONE of it would have been possible without the love and support of such amazing TMNT fans!”
The folks at IDW say that a second print of the book is one the way so, if you missed it the first go ‘round, be sure to hit up your local comic shop over the next few weeks. Don’t feel bad if it’s not the first print either. The second issue will feature a brand new cover from Kevin Eastman himself!
