Move over DC and Marvel Comics! You aren’t the only ones to have your comic characters come to life. Showtime announced today that they are in development to bring the Oni Press comic series ‘The Damned’ to the small screen.
The project will be written by David Hayden who also wrote on ‘X-Men’, ‘X2’, ‘The Scorpion King’ and ‘The Watchmen’. Experienced in bringing comic book personas to life, Hayden will be adapting ‘The Damned’ from the Prohibition Era when it was originally set in to the modern day world of today. Hayden will also serve as an executive producer.
Written by Cullen Bunn and illustrated by Brian Hurt, ‘The Damned’ is the supernatural tale about a man named Eddie whose curse is to return from the dead over and over again at the expense of whoever touches him while he is dead. Anyone who touches him in his dead state will die of the injuries that killed Eddie and Eddie, in turn, is revived. Eddie is involved in a turf war where gang bosses and mobsters are demons and he must play all sides of the game while trying to reclaim his soul.
This sounds like a very promising show and with the successes Hayden has had with his previous screenplays, this may be a small screen comic book success we haven’t seen in a long while! Let’s hope it doesn’t fall into oblivion like ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘The Cape’ which did not fair too well. Since it’s still considered in development, it may be a couple years before we actually see ‘The Damned’ on the small screen.
